August is the peak of Santorini's summer — hot, dry and sunny from morning to evening. That strong sun makes it perfect for beach days and time on the water, and tough for midday sightseeing on the exposed caldera paths. It's also the busiest month of the year: the famous spots (Oia especially) fill up fast, and restaurants, tours and hotels book out. None of that ruins the trip — it just means timing and reservations are everything.

If there's one local tip that changes your whole day: visit Oia in the morning. By late afternoon, cruise ships drop off hundreds of passengers who head up to Oia for dinner and sunset, and the village turns shoulder-to-shoulder. In the morning it's calm, cooler, and you can actually enjoy the blue domes and narrow lanes — and get the photos without a wall of people in them.

For dinner, Fira is the better call than Oia in August. You still get the caldera views and the restaurants, without the same cruise-ship dinner crush — but book a table, don't just turn up.
If you want somewhere calmer and more special, head to Imerovigli. Dinner at Five Senses is a lovely choice, and afterwards, drinks at 180° Sunset Bar — with live piano music and one of the best caldera views on the island — is the kind of evening people remember.
August heat is made for the sea. Two of the best beach days are on the black sand of the south coast: Perissa and Perivolos — long stretches of black-sand beach with sunbeds, beach bars and tavernas. Easy full days, and great for staying on into the evening.
And the single best way to escape the heat and see the island differently is a catamaran cruise — swim and snorkel stops, a BBQ meal with drinks, and the caldera from the water. In August especially, a few hours at sea beats another hot afternoon in the crowds.
If Oia and Fira start to feel like too much, Imerovigli is the antidote. It sits on the highest point of the caldera, it's far calmer and less touristy, and the views are arguably better than Oia's. Wander the quiet paths, have dinner at Five Senses, and end the night with a drink and live piano at 180° Sunset Bar. It's where you go when you want Santorini without the scrum.
